Teaching

I have been teaching singing, piano and theory for over 10 years to a wide age range from children at primary school to adults in their 60s. I find it fascinating how people learn differently and I enjoy adapting my teaching to each student as everyone is unique. I focus on helping my students to reach their full potential by teaching them a broad repertoire and encouraging them to notice and correct their own mistakes so they can practise efficiently away from our lessons. With singing, I guide my students to discover their own interpretation and enable them to find their own individual voice. Most importantly, I make the lessons fun and am gratified when students discover their own repertoire and bring it to their lessons.

I did my degree in singing at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance and am currently studying for a Masters in singing at The Royal Birmingham Conservatoire. I have a distinction in Grade 8 Piano and have passed Grade 5 theory. I have been teaching privately in Aylesbury for over a decade and taught at Bucks Music Trust 2012-2018. I currently teach piano and singing at Aylesbury High School and have been there since 2017. I regularly prepare students for ABRSM and Trinity exams from grades 1-8 and have a 100% pass rate. After school, my students have gone on to take up choral scholarships in Oxbridge and to Theatre schools including Arts1.

I am a member of the union ISM, have public liability insurance and have an up to date DBS. During the COVID-19 pandemic I have been teaching online via Zoom which has been very successful and I am resuming some face to face teaching in the Autumn with precautions in place.

Testimonials

“Felicity teaches piano to my daughter at secondary school, and also taught her remotely via Zoom during the Covid lockdown. Having the lessons take place remotely from our home has given me some insight in to Felicity's teaching, and I have been very impressed. Felicity is a really wonderful teacher, with a calm and constructive manner. She is both positive and encouraging, as well as sensitive in providing feedback and guidance. My daughter really likes Felicity and enjoys her lessons. It is clear from Felicity's teaching approach, as well the techniques she shares, that she is an expert in music, and has a wealth of experience to draw from when helping my daughter to progress. Felicity also accompanied my daughter for her violin exam, and she did a fantastic job.I asked my daughter what she thinks of Felicity as a teacher, and she said 'kind, creative, helpful, and always in a good mood.” Jackie, parent

“Felicity is kind, warm and understands my daughter's learning style - helping her to find the music she enjoys playing. Since starting with Felicity my daughter's enthusiasm has increased and the improvement to her playing is noticeable.”  Jane, parent.

Felicity seems to understand what I am best at, and knows what I need. She is patient and supportive in her teaching which makes the lessons enjoyable, helping me to improve my skills.” Katharine, student.

“Felicity is my first singing teacher and I began lessons with her at AHS when I was in year 10 with no past formal experience. Her teaching style is very upbeat and flexible, and I feel like I have a lot of freedom in choice of pieces and styles to pursue! Even the coronavirus pandemic  has not been an issue and lessons have been seamlessly handled online. Now, I’m in year 13 and working towards my grade 8 in singing. These lessons are very helpful in aiding with the performance aspect of my music A Level as they were in my music GCSE.” Gabby, student.
